Which personalities accompany the President on his state visit?| MESSAGES
From Tuesday to Friday, Emmanuel Macron will be on a state visit to the United States. A large and diverse delegation accompanies him to assist in talks with law enforcement and American officials.
Emmanuel Macron, invited to a state visit to the United States, has no plans to make the trip alone.
To seize this opportunity for a privileged meeting with the American executive, the President of the Republic surrounded himself with a delegation of ministers, business leaders, players in the energy sector, but also personalities from the worlds of culture and science.
Because these three days in Uncle Sam’s country must be partially devoted to discussions about the energy and climate transitions, in hopes of creating a common agenda with the United States. We also note the presence of the President of WWF France, Monique Barbut, within the French delegation elected Special Representative of the President of the Republic for Biodiversity.
Emmanuel Macron has also surrounded himself with several nuclear players in France, with members from EDF and the Atomic Energy Commission (CEA), but also from multinational Orano, a specialist in nuclear fuels. The French company Deep Tech Naarea, a pioneer in micronuclear technology, will also be represented, as will the Institute for Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety (IRSN).
Several ministers will also join the ranks, such as Bruno Le Maire, tenant of Bercy, and Catherine Colonna, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs. Also taking part in the trip are Sébastien Lecornu, Sylvie Retailleau and Rima Abdul Malak, Ministers for the Armed Forces, Higher Education and Research and Culture respectively. A group of four parliamentarians will complete the political component of this delegation.
In particular, the exchange should address the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) being devised by the Biden administration, which proposes various measures designed to repatriate the majority of energy transition-related industrial investments back to the United States. This text is seen as protectionist and has been criticized by Europe, which is worried about the consequences for its industry.
Company, space and culture
Unless he plans to bring Joe Biden back to the overall architecture of this plan, however, Emmanuel Macron does not hide his hope of snagging some “exemptions” for certain European industries.
More broadly, the French delegation will also consist of business leaders. LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault, businessman Xavier Niel and TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Pouyanné have been selected to fly to the United States.
Space issues are expected to be given special prominence during this state visit, as astronauts Thomas Pesquet and Sophie Adenot will also be present. Astrophysicist Fatoumata Kébé and CNES boss Philippe Baptiste will complete this “space” team.
The French cultural scene is not outdone with the presence of the President and Director of the Louvre Laurence des Cars, but also the Director Claude Lelouch and the choreographer Benjamin Millepied. The francophile and francophone American writer Douglas Kennedy will also be among Emmanuel Macron’s guests.
