“We had a time when we were apart”

Too much, Tae Yang by BIGBANGThe hit ballad of “Eyes, Nose, Lips” was the perfect song to help them through a tearful breakup. Little did we know that the song was actually inspired by Taeyang’s very real moment of heartbreak with his now-wife. Min Hyo Rin.

During a recent episode of Yoo quiz on the block, Taeyang opened up about his romance with his wife. He had to rush his music video for “1 AM,” but they were missing a female lead. On a friend’s recommendation, he hired Min Hyo Rin for the job. Luckily, despite the short-notice announcement, she said yes.

To thank her for her work, Taeyang offered her a meal. It was during this time that he realized how well they matched.

We talked and got along so well. Even then I had no dating experience, so maybe I was uncomfortable talking to a woman; she wasn’t clumsy at all and drove me well. So I said I wanted to see her again when we break up and then I contacted her. The more I met her, the more I loved her. I thought I would marry if it was with her.

Despite being a match made in heaven, the two actually went their separate ways for a short time. Taeyang confessed that he was too busy during his world tour, which led to a breakup. It was then that he wrote his epic breakup song “Eyes, Nose, Lips.”

I was too busy and since I was in the middle of a world tour I hardly ever went to Korea. Looking back now I was so clueless that I had no dating experience. She must have been frustrated at moments like this. So we had a time apart and I made the song “Eyes, Nose, Lips” which contained my feeling of missing him.

Thanks to the hit song, they were able to get back together! Taeyang admitted the song was so heartfelt that it helped get them back on track.

While I was composing the song, we got back together. I showed the song to Min Hyo Rin as the song that represents my feelings and she loved it.

This isn’t the first time Taeyang has spoken about it! He briefly confessed Sketchbook by Yoo Hui Yeol 2014 that he loved someone but they broke up. The song came about due to the disappearance of her ex-lover. Taeyang and Min Hyo Rin married four years later in 2018.
