United States: won more than $1 billion by a player in the lottery

While the organizer Mega Millions had staked around 1.35 billion dollars in the American lottery, a winning ticket was validated this Friday, January 13th.

Friday the 13th isn’t bad luck for everyone. In the United States, an anonymous person canceled a lottery ticket that netted him $1.35 billion, or about €1.24 billion. This is the second largest jackpot in the history of Mega Millions, the lottery organizer, after the one that won $1.53 billion in 2018.

This person lives in Maine, a state in the northeastern United States, and he’s the only one who found the six correct numbers.

Fourteen players in ten different US states managed to match five out of six numbers, but it wasn’t enough to win the jackpot.

With this win, the American lottery starts a new cycle with an initial jackpot of $20 million.
