Two Former Idols Reveal If There’s An LGBT Community Among Kpop Idols
In this new era, the LGBT community encourages and embraces diversity and takes pride in their individuality.
However, Korea is known to be a sensitive country in this regard and people are keen on preserving their culture and beliefs despite the modern lifestyle.
People often face criticism for proclaiming that they are LGBT, and hostility is greater when it comes to a celebrity who admits to being part of the community.
As more and more kpop idols emerge as LGBT allies, many fans are wondering if there are many idols in the community.
Crayon Pop’s Way invited former BLANC7 leader Shinwoo to its YouTube channel to answer some burning questions, including whether there really are many gay idols in the K-pop industry.
“We hear that there are many homosexuals [dans la K-Pop] », a popular fan, “But are there really many? »
There are several idols who have proven themselves to be part of the LGBT community like Holland and Jiae from WA$$UP.
Fear of criticism, however, only a few of them reveal themselves.
Shinwoo was a member of BLANC7 from 2017 to 2019. He revealed that while he’s heard of gay idols in the industry, he hasn’t had any direct experience with them.
He continued: ” Even if people say [cette personne est] gay, he doesn’t act like that around me so i can’t really believe him. »
As for Way, she revealed that she’s seen a lot of gay idols. However, this does not mean that they are open about their sexuality.
Way said they generally prefer to hide it.
However, Way says gays in the industry tend to recognize other gays. “Among homosexuals” She says, “There might be a connection. »
While disclosing their sexuality is a personal choice, it’s unfortunate that some idols have to “hide” to avoid criticism.
