The Boys Season 4: Release Date, Cast, Storyline… Everything We Already Know

The fiendishly gripping series The Boys promises to return with an even bloodier Season 4. Official announcements, leaks, predictions and rumors, that’s all we already know about him. Attention, SPOILERS.

The years pass and the success is still there. Launching on Amazon Prime Video in 2019, The Boys was able to appeal to large audiences by offering viewers a satire of superhero culture in society and its connection to the military-industrial complex and the political world. Season 3 had allowed us to learn more about the origins of Homelander – whose father is none other than Soldier Boy, a forgotten former superhero star – as well as the extent of the powers of Ryan, Homelander’s son with Billy Butcher’s wife . The latter, meanwhile, suffered from a terminal illness after ingesting a temporary version of Compound-V, the chemical substance from which the series’ characters’ superpowers derive (or at least the ones that have them).

When will it be released?

Season 3 aired through the summer of 2022 before the series was renewed for a fourth chapter. According to several American sites, filming of this fourth season was underway in Toronto last August. And it’s supposed to end next March. If we are to believe the production schedules of previous seasons, it wouldn’t be surprising if season 4 lands on our screens in the fall of 2023.

What do we know about the plot? (SPOILER)

No main storyline details have been officially released. But… the many media forays by showrunner Eric Kripke into what viewers can expect in Season 4 gives a pretty good idea of what’s on the horizon. In particular, we know that Stella, aka Starlight, will become a full member of the Boys, Billy Butcher’s band, where she will find her boyfriend Hughie, the cream, the Frenchman and Kimiko.

Opposite them is Victoria Neuman, who has allied herself with Homelander in hopes of becoming the future Vice President of the United States. Which would make them the Supes (the nickname given to the superheroes on the show, ed.) the most powerful in history, politically speaking. Billy Butcher will be convicted after ingesting a transient version of Compound-V, and he will have no time to put it out of the way, Eric Kripke told American website Variety. “There’s this totally insane countdown. He’s got so many things to do that he’s never done before,” he says.

But Butcher’s biggest problem will undoubtedly be Homelander and the fact that the latter has grown closer to Ryan. At the end of season three, the boy used his powers publicly for the first time, under his father’s satisfied gaze. In an interview with the American site IGN, the showrunner of the series clarified that this story will be the focus of the fourth season.

“If he attends to his education, he will raise Ryan to be a second Homelander with apocalyptic implications. (…) I think it’s a reference to one of the biggest conflicts of season four, which is the fight between Butcher and Homelander over Ryan,” he explains. For the rest, we know that Soldier Boy was neutralized, but that he is not dead. So his return is not out of the question. In the comics, Black Noir is the only Supes that can hold his own against Homelander.

Who will be in the cast?

Viewers will obviously have the pleasure of seeing almost the entire original cast, with Karl Urban, Anthony Starr, Jack Quaid, Erin Moriarty, Karen Fukuhara, Chaz Crawford, Laz Alonso, Tomer Kapon, Claudia Doumit, Colby Minifie or even Jessie Usher.

Last October, the series’ official Twitter account announced the arrival of two new Supes in Season 4, Sister Sage and Firecracker, played by Susan Heyward and Valorie Curry.

Sister Sage is introduced as a superhero who is “always a thousand steps ahead of you,” which could mean she is clairvoyant. Firecracker shows a belt with two pistols and a suit in the colors of the American flag. A patriotism that should please Homelander. Firecracker is also known to have very little patience, so possibly with the quick trigger.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays Negan in The Walking Dead, will make a notable appearance in Season 4, but in a role that has been kept secret. Rosemarie Dewitt (La La Land) will play Hughie’s mother. As a reminder, it was Simon Pegg who played his father in Season 1 (he was absent from Season 2 and had a brief appearance in Season 3). Rob Benedict (Supernatural) and Elliot Knight (Titans) will be present for the casting, but again, it’s impossible to know in which roles.
