Tattoos are a form of self-expression. Though still frowned upon by some, especially celebrities, these K-pop idols are breaking stigma by proudly showing off their ink.

HyunA is never ashamed to show off her tattoos. She has many inks, but each one has a special meaning.

HyunA also has an intriguing tattoo on the inside of her elbow. “60s Dad” is written on it as a tribute to her father, who was born in 1960. The singer admitted in an interview that her father’s encouragement inspired her to put more effort into her songs.

In December 2022, HyunA and Dawn split after six years of dating. The ex-couple had couple tattoos with the word “Life” written in letters on their left and right hands respectively. HyunA embellished her tattoo piece with a delicate little heart for a special touch.

ONCEs look forward to seeing Chaeyoung’s beautiful tattoos as they are usually hidden during live performances. Her lip tattoo on her left wrist was the first she had ever shown publicly. The tattoo is painted in neon magenta and apricot, which are also the official colors of TWICE.

Fans praise Chaeyoung for showing off her unique tastes and color, though tattoos are still viewed negatively in Korea. It says a lot about Chaeyoung’s confidence and determination to flaunt his tattoos during live performances as a member of a band known for their smooth and clear performances.

MAMAMOO Hwasa

MAMAMOO Hwasa has many tattoos, although her long hair often hides the “Maria” ink on her neck. This tattoo commemorates his christening name and as of 2020 serves as the name of his EP.

And did you know that Hwasa and her colleague Wheein, who is also her closest friend, have matching tattoos? They both chose the word “resonance” and it’s written on the back of their ankles!

Wheein has her own tattoo collection, as does her friend Hwasa. For example, her cat’s name, Ggomo, is written in plain ink on her right hand. To make it even more remarkable, it was handwritten by the singer.

This intricate classic perfume design on Wheein’s left forearm is another prominent tattoo. The tattoo artist said the perfume bottle that Wheein’s mother gave him served as inspiration for this design. As an additional tribute to her mother, she had her Latin name “Sophy” engraved on the bottle.

A former member of (G)I-DLE, Soojin has a total of eight tattoos. Her most famous tattoos include a crucifix on her back, a minimalistic heart outline on her shoulder, and the phrase “Love yourself is the most beautiful love” on the back of her arm.

The latter two look stunning from behind, making this girl group idol look edgier and more daring.
