DKZ’s agency comments on Kyoungyoon’s family ties to the Soompi sect of the Church of Providence
The DKZ agency responded to a controversy.
On March 3, NETFLIX released a documentary titled “In The Name of God: A Holy Betrayal” (“Au Nom de Dieu: Les Executioners de la Foi” in French and already available).
This is a documentary in which NETFLIX looks at four religious cults in South Korea led by leaders who claim to be prophets and manipulate their followers. The documentary thus sheds light on the problem of cults in Korea and their overly widespread influence in Korean society.
In the NETFLIX documentary, we’re particularly interested in the case of Jeong Myeong Seok, the controversial leader of the Church of Providence who was convicted of numerous rapes.
After the documentary, many places associated with the sect were revealed, and one of those places was a coffee shop run by Kyoungyoon’s parents from DKZ.
Then, on March 7, Dongyo Entertainment stated:
“First of all, we would like to apologize to anyone who may have felt uncomfortable with content posted to an online community today.
With regard to the family business of DKZ member Kyoungyoon, which is currently being discussed online and in social media, after consultation with Kyoungyoon and his family, it turns out that information could be obtained from many people beforehand and the contents of the documentation could be viewed. He believed that the organization in question was simply an ordinary church attended by his parents and he had never seen or been aware of the information contained in the documents.
When Kyoungyoon learned the truth today, he personally checked the contents of the documents and could not contain his horror. The business his family ran immediately ceased operations, and after examining all aspects of the organization involved, they left the Church at the same time. We also make it clear to you that you will no longer be associated with the organization going forward.
As someone whose job it is to receive lots of love, Kyoungyoon deeply apologizes for not being able to properly deal with the matters that concern him. While ignorance is no excuse, he never had the slightest desire to act on behalf of the organization in question or defend its crimes, so we urge you to refrain from speculation or exaggerated mentions.
Once again, we apologize to everyone who has felt uncomfortable about this matter, and our agency will also support Kyoungyoon so that he can become an artist who examines his environment and all the issues that concern him more closely. »
