BTS’ RM Reveals Why He’s Not Using His Real Name On Stage
BTS’ RM recently traveled to Spain for a family vacation after attending the Milan fashion show for Bottega Veneta at the brand’s personal invitation.
Amidst his personal schedule, he made time to give interviews to local Spanish media, one of which garnered a lot of attention.
His interview with the media “El Pais” caught the attention of fans for the refreshing honesty and frankness shown by the leader of BTS when talking about kpop and mentioning France.
In the same interview, he returned to his evolution as an artist and the different identities he’s had throughout his career.
In fact, RM didn’t always use that name. He started out as Runch Randa. In any case, he never used his real name as an artist.
The reporter then asked him if RM ever considered using his real name for the scene. RM then responded by saying that each name was a different side of him.
« [Rires] We all have a past, a dark history, as they say in Korea. Runch Randa was my nickname in an RPG, then I wanted to be a “rap monster”, then I matured… I prefer my name to be known to as few people as possible. I’m not John Lennon or Paul McCartney. I can check into a hotel calmly and I like that. »
This isn’t the first time RM has said he differentiates his RM character from his true self, Kim Namjoon.
RM has previously spoken about living as a member of BTS and Kim Namjoon simultaneously and the special nature of the two characters. For him, RM is the musician, the side he shows to the public, while Kim Namjoon is “a human being… a family member and a friend”.
All represent Kim Namjoon while being a different part of him and fans love that he is so in tune with himself.
