BTS Earns RIAJ Platinum Certifications, LE SSERAFIM Aims for Gold
Various artists have been honored with certifications from the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ), including K-pop groups BTS and LE SSERAFIM.
The RIAJ applied a brand new certification system in 2020 that focuses on online streaming. This system was added to RIAJ’s certification systems for physical album sales and digital downloads.
With RIAJ’s additional system, songs receive certifications based on their number of streams, including Silver (30 million streams), Gold (50 million streams), and Platinum (100 million streams).

First, RIAJ set up the Platinum brand at 100 million streams and Diamond at 500 million. However, a new system has also been introduced to honor dual platinum certifications for 200 million streams and triple platinum certifications for 300 million streams.
BTS’ “Butter” has now earned three platinum certifications after racking up 300 million streams in Japan. This success was followed by her song “Permission to Dance” which racked up 200 million streams and was certified double platinum by RIAJ.
