BLACKPINK’s Jennie limits her DMs after receiving a wave of hate from ARMYs internationally
BLACKPINK’s Jennie has received a wave of hate since an alleged video of the singer holding hands with BTS’s V in Paris was shared online.
Rumors have been circulating for several months after photos were published online showing the two young idols on Jeju Island, a major vacation spot off the south coast. The account where the photo was posted revealed that the two people in these photos are V and Jennie.
Since then, Jennie has received several mean comments on her Instagram account. By May 17, however, things seemed to be calming down. A paparazzi and a French journalist have confirmed that they captured the video of Jennie and V walking around Paris.
Since then, several international ARMYs have left throwing face and middle finger emojis and misogynistic slurs towards the singer.
The situation was on Twitter the same. Several V fans called out Jennie to stop recycling in Seoul and blamed her for the photos and videos shared.
However, other fans of the singer came to the rescue, leaving positive comments and purple hearts.
On May 19, Jennie blocked the DM function on her Instagram. DM throttling is a feature that prevents users who are unfollowed or recently followed from sending DMs to users.
Instagram describes the DM Restriction feature as “Something has been put in place to protect parties from harassment by an unknown number of people when celebrities, athletes and public figures suddenly become a hot topic.”
On the other hand, Jennie will be attending the Cannes Film Festival on May 22nd by invitation for HBO’s series The Idol, in which she appears.
