9 “Youth” Trailer (BTS Universe) Details and References
The BTS universe has once again rocked the internet with the release of the highly anticipated Kdrama Youth trailer.
As BTS – albeit on hiatus – continues to captivate audiences around the world, their latest foray into storytelling is causing fans to rave.
After a long wait, the highly anticipated BTS Universe Korean KDrama Youth has finally released its first video trailer and storyline.
The trailer was unexpectedly released during Korea Expo 2023 in Paris, which marked the 60th anniversary of Korea-EU diplomatic relations.
The kdrama stars Seo Jo Hoon as Jin, Ahn Ji Ho as J-Hope, Seo Young Joo as RM, Kim Yoon Woo as Jimin, Jung Woo Jin as V, and Jeon Jin Seo as Jungkook, all starring in the “fictional” film represented by BTS. Members of the BTS universe.
YOUTH’s first teaser reimagines scenes from BTS’ music videos and mixes them into a new storyline.
Here are 9 references to BTS’ previous works that hint at what YOUTH has in store for us!
- The carousel
One symbol that keeps appearing throughout the BTS universe is the carousel, which directly references the traumatic event experienced by the J-Hope character.
According to the story, the carousel is where the character’s mother leaves him and becomes a place with many important meanings.
We saw this in both the Love Yourself Highlight Reel and the FAKE LOVE music video.
- spring day
Youth’s teaser begins with a nod to the band’s popular song and music video, “Spring Day,” which was released in 2017. Among the many meanings of the title, the desire to reunite with a distant friend becomes one of the emotions expressed in the lyrics.
The scene where V puts his ear to the train tracks on a sunny day also refers to the same thing.
In the trailer, a certain phrase gives viewers a similar sentiment:
“I wish we were together. I don’t want any of the seven missing. »
- The sea
Another scene from the YOUTH trailer that caught fans’ attention is the constant alternation between happy and sad memories of the seven friends, whose friendship sadly fell apart after graduation.
In one of these scenes, the seven friends are running around in the sea and having fun while wearing colorful clothes.
While the attire choice and color scheme are strongly reminiscent of the Euphoria music video, many fans have noticed that for the members of BTS, the sea symbolizes a sanctuary where they can be freed from the harsh realities of urban life.
This is portrayed in many of the seven boy bands’ music videos, most notably I NEED U.
- FAKE LOVE
Another nod to BTS music videos is the window scene depicted in the show’s trailer. Although the details are still vague due to the trailer’s brevity, there is a part where one of the seven friends looks through a window.
This scene reminds many of a shot from the FAKE LOVE music video where Jungkook watches Jimin through a window.
It may also allude to the scene where Jin looks through a window.
- Jimin in his bathtub
Water is a symbol often associated with Jimin, be it in the music video for FAKE LOVE or I NEED U.
While other aspects bear close resemblance or faint nods to aspects of the BTS universe, a specific scene from the YOUTH trailer directly introduces Jimin’s scene in the I NEED U music video.
One of the Seven Friends, most likely playing the role of Jimin, sits fully clothed in a tub of water.
- spray paint
Spray paint is an important background detail in BTS music videos and often carries clues or hidden messages that provide insight into the characters’ inner thoughts. The most famous example is an ambigram with the words “I’m fine” and “Save me”.
A sprayed window can be seen in the background during this emotional scene.
- phone booth
In a well-known scene from the BTS short film REFLECTION for the album promotion WINGS, RM can be seen next to a phone booth.
As the cabin phone continues to ring, RM, unable to get in because it’s locked, seems desperate for a way to open it.
In complete contrast, but in a similar vein, in the YOUTH trailer, someone in the booth drops the phone on the floor as snow falls on the floor.
- The campfire
In the MV for “I NEED U”, BTS happily gather around a campfire. This happy moment is interspersed with shocking moments, such as when V’s character murders his abusive father.
A campfire also appears in the YOUTH teaser.
- The Observatory
One of the most memorable locations in the BTS universe – the observatory that Jin and V both climbed – appears near the end of the teaser.
Although no release date has been announced, the trailer suggested that the series is “coming soon” and fans are extremely excited to see it on the small screen.
