Science fiction is a type of speculative fiction that generally deals with imaginative and futuristic ideas such as advanced technology, time travel, parallel universes, and life on other planets.
So if you fancy some SF for your next kdrama picks, here are a few to check out.
- duel
This kdrama tells the story of detective Jang Deuk Cheon whose world falls apart when his sick daughter is kidnapped. He finds a lead on the seemingly innocent Lee Sung Joon, who was spotted at the scene with an unknown man with the same face as himself.
But Sung Joon can’t remember anything, so Deuk Cheon works with him to regain his memory. As the story progresses, Deuk Cheon discovers that kidnapping his daughter is just the tip of the iceberg.

SF8 is an anthology series that is often compared to Netflix’s Black Mirror.
Featuring the work of eight filmmakers, each short film focuses on people dreaming of the perfect society in a world dominated by artificial intelligence, augmented reality, virtual reality, robots, games and more.

In 1986, Detective Gwang-ho tries to catch a serial killer.
During his investigation, the main character eventually goes through a tunnel that takes him to 2017, where the killer starts murdering people again. Gwang-ho teams up with Sun-jae and Jae-yi to solve the crime.
- Circle
This underrated sci-fi kdrama takes place in two time periods: 2017 and 2037. In the year 2037 we see a dystopian world where Korea is divided into Normal Earth and Smart Earth.
Thanks to groundbreaking technology that records everyone’s memories, Smart Earth is pristine and crime-free, but Detective Kim Joon Hyuk uncovers Smart Earth’s web of lies while investigating an old case of the twins’ disappearance in 2017.

Detective Seo Do Won has made it his mission to catch criminals, but when the woman he’s loved since childhood, prosecutor Han Seo Kyung, falls victim to a serial killer, he despairs.
He boards a train on the trail of the killer and suddenly finds himself in a parallel universe where Seo Kyung is a badass detective while he is a corrupt cop whom everyone despises. Do Won must now find a way to catch the serial killer and protect Seo Kyung while figuring out how one universe relates to another.

In 1992, while agent couple Tae Yi and Min Hyuk are searching for an important book, Tae Yi finds out she’s pregnant and decides not to return to the future. She changes her name to Sun Young and raises her son Jin Gyeom, but tragedy strikes and he finds himself alone.

We follow a police officer whose attempt to take down a criminal organization results in the death of his wife and the loss of his eyes. The NIS offers him to become a member of Rugal. He gets two artificial eyes with integrated biotechnology.
- Kairos
Kim Seo Jin is a successful manager of a construction company, and one day his daughter disappears without a trace. Shortly after, his wife Kang Hyun Chae commits suicide in shock.
Han Ae Ri, whose mother disappeared in the hospital, walked in. She gets a call from Seo Jin – who lives a month before her – and the two help each other rewrite each other’s tragedies.
