5 reasons why PSG can’t win the Champions League
Founded in 1970, PSG has still not won the prestigious Champions League, which awarded the best European team of the season. In 2020, the team under Thomas Tuchel was in the final, but did not find the means to beat Bayern Munich. Can PSG still win the Champions League? ?
A sports project for review
When the QSI group arrived on March 6, 2012, the Qataris’ aim was to develop the club economically: a successful mission as PSG’s market value is now estimated at €2 billion. But on a sporting level, it’s a failure… Eleven years after taking over, Paris still hasn’t won the Big Ears Cup.
Paris have recruited star players like Neymar, Messi and Mbappé but after several years at the club it’s time to say goodbye to some players. During the next transfer window, PSG need to send at least Messi or Neymar to accompany Kylian Mbappé in attack if they really want to build a competitive project that isn’t just based on individuals. During the last winter transfer window, Paris failed to sign a player while the team suffered numerous injury-related absences. Inter defender Skriniar should have moved to the capital but he won’t join the club until next summer. With Kimpembe’s absence until the end of the season, the player could have been of great importance.
to trust young people
If Paris really wants to build a collective and become a great European, it needs to trust its training center. If you see FC Barcelona, the club trains world-class players like Pedri, Iniesta, Messi, Gavi… With the arrival of Christophe Galtier, some players (like Warren Zaire Emery aged just 16) were able to make their senior debut. But before that, PSG let go of many players like Nkunku, Moussa Diaby, Xavi Simons, Coman…
A team traumatized by the past
The reunion marked PSG on a psychological level. Since that 6-1 defeat, Paris have games within reach. The defeat in 2017 against Manchester with 1:3, in 2021 against Real, where the game changed within 5 minutes. The PSG team lack confidence and remain too feverish at major events.
Strong European competition
Teams like Real Madrid or Bayern Munich have really turned the European scene upside down with intelligent recruitment, young players and a sporting project that endures. These teams have all the elements that Paris doesn’t have. PSG lack the experience that big teams have and we see it in confrontations like against Real Madrid or Bayern Munich.
