Endah Citraresmi, head of the Indonesian Pediatric Association (IDAI) AIDS Commission, said that as of June 2022, 274 children under the age of 4 have been infected with AIDS.

IDAI noted that the total number of children infected with AIDS between the ages of 5 and 14 is 173. While the highest number of cases until June 2022 was dominated by children aged 15 to 19 with a total of 741 cases.

“They are young, and the disease can be transmitted in any way at this age. It can be from father or mother, and it can be because of free sex and drug use,” he said.

Also, Endah said, there is a need to improve education on this disease. Especially for young people who have entered the outside world.

In addition, sex education is important to apply at an early age. This not only prevents HIV, but also prevents the spread of other diseases.
