10 Worst Kpop Fandom Names According to International Fans
Each K-pop fandom name has a different meaning.
Almost all K-pop fandom names have special meanings related to artists. These names are meant to make fans feel connected to the artist.
There are many kpop fandoms although the exact number is not known but we know that there are more than 99 million kpop fans making up these many fandoms!
The fandom names of these kpop groups are sometimes based on the most popular songs sung by the group or sometimes on values held in high esteem by the group and its fans.
But there are also some that are a little questionable, poorly chosen or downright clumsy! Recently, K-pop fans were asked on Reddit which fandom names they think are the worst in the industry, and here are their top 10 answers.
- DIA – Fan base: AIDS
It’s not hard to see why the name AIDS is problematic. In fact, it is the English name for the disease AIDS or HIV. Fans understand that Korea is not a native English speaker, but this name is difficult for international fans.
- Wonho – Fandom: Wenees
Although Wonho chose this name beautifully (We Are New Ending), this word can have a very different meaning in the English-speaking world. In fact, it can be used to talk about the male genitals.
- GOT7 – Fan base: iGOT7
iGOT7 is actually the official fandom name of GOT7, and fans have renamed themselves to aghase (little bird), which is shortened to iGOT7 in Korean, but sounds a little better.
- Block B – Fandom: BBC
BBC isn’t that bad per se, but it’s mostly reminiscent of the English television station of the same name. Fans prefer to call themselves bees.
- Kep1er – Fandom: Kep1ians
When Kep1er debuted, many were angry at being called Kep1ianer. Some fans say they read this as “Kelpiens” which is a species in Star Trek.
- Aespa – Fandom: MYs
Fans find the name doesn’t match the group. While this appears to be a way of saying “my precious friends” in Kwangyan, many feel it’s not polished enough.
- ENHYPEN -Fandom: ENGENEs
In English, “engine” means engine (of a car, motorcycle, etc.). Of course, many international fans don’t think of that when they hear the name. Additionally, some question the meaning of the name and its relationship to the group.
- PURPLE KISS – Fandom : PLORY
Fans hate how this name sounds. It doesn’t have any special meaning, but fans think it’s not nice to pronounce.
- ITZY – Fanbase: MIDZYs
Fans had come up with all sorts of meanings behind the name, which ended up not being the official meaning. In general, they don’t like the sound of the name.
- LE SSERAFIM – Fandom : Fearnots
In Korean, fandom would be “pheona,” meaning “to hatch.” However, the sound of the name in English does not please the ears of international fans who find the name strange.
